Go Cobras!

pictured left to right: Becky Dalton and Anna Maria Watkin

Becky Dalton recently retired from the Assessment Center after 35 years of working at Parkland. During her time here, Becky's daughter, Tonia Anding, and Dr. Staerkel, the first Parkland College President, established a friendship.

Tonia suffered through many years of illness, and often Dr. Staerkel would send little gifts and letters to cheer her up. In 1983, he sent her this Parkland Cheerleader doll, an item that was only sold in the bookstore for one semester. This became Tonia's favorite gift, and it held a prized place on her dresser until her passing in 1995.

Becky generously donated the doll to Anna Maria Watkin, Library Director, for the Parkland College Library Archives in memory of both her daughter Tonia and Dr. Staerkel. It will be kept in the Archives as a memorial to their sweet friendship.

Take That, H1N1!

Parkland Library just gave H1N1 the 1-2 punch by setting up Purell wipe dispensers near the computer areas. Now you can use a wipe to clean off those germy keyboards and mice before you begin your work. Don't forget, there are also hand sanitizer stations throughout the main parts of the college, and wash your hands for 20-30 seconds with hot water and soap.

Those germs are on the keyboard! What should I do?!?

Grab a Purell wipe from the dispenser! Quick!

Special thanks to Tom, Kestrina, and Rachel for their portrayal of Swine Flu Horror.

Periodicals Use Study

Periodicals Use Study: please do not reshelve magazines in the Library this month!

The Library is doing a print periodicals use study this month, October 2009. The purpose of the study is to help library staff make decisions about print and online access to periodicals, and to ensure that we are providing the best materials in the most appropriate format for you.

Please continue to use any journals and magazines as you usually do, but please do not reshelve periodicals after use. Instead of reshelving, simply place materials on the carts located in the Current Periodicals area or leave near a photocopier if you are making copies. Library staff will record usage and then reshelve all periodicals.

Thanks in advance for helping to make the study a success!
