  2. Unfortunately, the librarians are far too busy with Serious Work to read to patrons. However, it does give us great pleasure to recommend books you might enjoy before drifting off to sleep.

In the lovely, gentle storybook category, we favor Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown (call number PZ8.3.B815 Go 2005b, or PZ73 .B6853 2002 for the Spanish version Buenas Noches, Luna).

Where the Giant Sleeps by Mem Fox (PZ8.3.F8245 Whm 2007)is a delightful sleepy-time tale of where the residents of fairyland all rest their heads.

If you were thinking of something a little racier, try In the Night Kitchen by Maurice Sendak (PZ7.S47 In). It was quite controversial at the time of its publication.

Prefer something without pictures? Short stories are always nice before turning in, try The Best American Short Stories of the Century (that's the 20th century, PS648.S5 B41 1999) edited by John Updike.

Poetry? Oh, we fear reading poetry aloud is becoming a lost art, perhaps you will revive it. How about something from A Little Treasury of Love Poems, from Chaucer to Dylan Thomas (PN6110.L6 H6)?

Gosh, I could go on all night but then you wouldn't get 'round to your reading. So let's just say that yes, the library is a treasure trove of bedtime reading. Pick some up to take home, and read to someone you love!
